Choosing the Right Tool

​In order to search the internet, ​a search engine is needed. A search engine allows you to search through a large collection of public websites. Different engines will give you different results. Some of the engines will collect and store your search data and sell it to third parties, which is then used to select which advertisements to display to you on specific websites.

​​Instead of telling you the pros and cons of each search engine service, I'm going to give you an assignment.

Finding Your Search Engine

​Go to https://duckduckgo.com/ and ask the question "top search engines". Click on some of the top results and start reading about the options.

​What are your preferences? Try to modify your question to find the search engine that meets your needs. If privacy is your concern, maybe search for 'privacy conscious search engines'.

Tip: Check the age of the content. More recent articles will provide you with a better view of the current landscape.
